Job Summary

ERMCO is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets & Capital Expenditures to serve as an experienced technical resource for fixed asset accounting and capital project financial management across the organization. This role bridges day-to-day accounting execution and advanced individual-contributor responsibilities by independently managing complex transactions, performing higher-level analysis, strengthening documentation and controls, and providing guidance to business partners and less-experienced team members. The position works closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Shared Services, Internal Controls, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate asset records, appropriate capitalization, reliable capital project reporting, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policy. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with sound judgment, practical problem-solving, and the ability to improve processes without requiring formal people-management responsibility.

This role will be hybrid in Bristol, WI. Relocation Assistance is available.

Responsibilities

Fixed Asset Accounting & Management

  • Independently manage complex accounting activities across the fixed asset lifecycle, including acquisitions, capitalization, depreciation, transfers, impairments, retirements, and disposals.
  • Ensure fixed asset transactions are recorded accurately and timely in accordance with U.S. GAAP, company policy, and established capitalization thresholds and useful-life guidance.
  • Maintain complete and accurate fixed asset subledger records, supporting documentation, and key asset attributes.
  • Prepare and review monthly fixed asset reconciliations; investigate root causes and resolve differences between the subledger and general ledger.
  • Coordinate assigned aspects of periodic fixed asset inventories and verification activities, including investigation of exceptions and preparation of required record updates.
  • Review non-routine transactions and provide accounting recommendations, escalating complex or judgmental matters to management as appropriate.

Capital Expenditure Analysis & Project Support

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Finance, and project teams to support capital planning, project execution, and closeout.
  • Monitor capital project spending against approved budgets and analyze variances, unusual activity, aging projects, potential overruns, and changes affecting expected costs, timing, or capitalization.
  • Review project costs and supporting documentation to determine appropriate accounting treatment and capitalization eligibility under U.S. GAAP and company policy.
  • Support annual capital budgeting, forecasting, and portfolio reporting processes, including the preparation and validation of project-level data.
  • Coordinate timely project closeout and asset placement-in-service activities, including confirmation of final costs, asset components, locations, and useful lives.
  • Respond to fixed asset and capitalization questions, provide guidance on routine and moderately complex matters, and escalate significant policy or accounting matters to management.

Reporting, Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Prepare and analyze recurring fixed asset and capital expenditure reports, including asset roll-forwards, depreciation, construction-in-progress, transfers, impairments, and retirements.
  • Execute and document assigned controls related to fixed assets and capital expenditures; identify recurring exceptions or potential control gaps and recommend corrective actions to management.
  • Maintain audit-ready support and respond to internal and external audit requests, including reconciliation evidence, transaction support, and explanations of accounting conclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support financial reporting and disclosure requirements related to property, plant, and equipment.

Process Improvement & Team Support

  • Identify, recommend, and implement approved improvements that strengthen data quality, documentation, controls, reporting, and the efficiency of recurring activities.
  • Support ERP enhancements, system implementations, testing, and process documentation updates related to fixed assets and capital projects.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, job aids, reconciliation standards, and other documentation that promote consistent execution across the organization.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to accountants and business partners; assist with selected peer reviews, troubleshooting, and exception resolution as assigned, without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Use Microsoft Excel, ERP reporting, and other technology to improve analysis, visibility, and decision support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including meaningful experience with fixed assets, capital project accounting, reconciliations, or financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting concepts, capitalization principles, depreciation methods, and account reconciliation practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research issues, analyze complex transactions, document conclusions, and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Experience executing or supporting internal controls, maintaining audit-ready documentation, and responding to audit requests.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage recurring deadlines, multiple priorities, and cross-functional relationships in a deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Attributes

  • CPA or CMA designation, or progress toward certification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite and with fixed asset or asset-tracking software.
  • Experience with capital budgeting, forecasting, project reporting, or construction-in-progress accounting.
  • Experience with process improvement, system implementation, shared services, or multi-location accounting.
  • Ability to influence outcomes, provide practical guidance, and lead work across functions without formal authority.
