Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Observe work at the Gemba to define the current condition, required condition, obstacles, and measurable target before selecting solutions.
  • Analyze cycle time, queues, labor and material flow, changeovers, process capability, downtime, defects, and schedule performance to identify constraints and variability.
  • Improve the plant constraint while avoiding local changes that do not improve total throughput, lead time, quality, safety, or risk.
  • Improve manufacturing methods, workstations, layouts, tooling, fixtures, controls, material handling, automation, and process parameters.
  • Partner with Quality to apply PFMEA, control plans, SPC, capability analysis, root-cause analysis, and validation methods.
  • Use PDCA and structured experiments to test countermeasures, separate assumptions from facts, and verify results before standardizing.
  • Convert validated improvements into standard work, settings, drawings, specifications, control plans, training, and operating routines.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Reliability to eliminate recurring failures requiring design, process, controls, access, or maintainability changes.
  • Include reliability, maintainability, safe access, diagnostics, component standardization, spare parts, and lifecycle cost in equipment changes and specifications.
  • Develop technical scopes, cost estimates, schedules, risk reviews, and business cases for modifications, rebuilds, replacements, and capital projects.
  • Coordinate vendors and support design review, installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, training, and post-implementation verification.
  • Coach operators, technicians, and partners in observation, cause-and-effect thinking, experimentation, and follow-through.
  • Maintain a regular plant-floor presence and clearly communicate progress, risk, assumptions, decisions, and support needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering; Engineering Technology; or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated structured problem-solving using direct observation, data, root-cause analysis, experimentation, and validation.
  • Working proficiency in process capability, SPC, PFMEA, control plans, time and capacity analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to translate production needs into practical equipment, tooling, process, layout, or automation solutions.
  • Ability to influence across functions, communicate calmly under pressure, maintain substantial gemba presence, and sustain improvements after launch.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Improving constrained or highly variable manufacturing processes.
  • CAD, equipment specifications, capital justification, vendor management, commissioning, and change control.
  • Reliability, maintainability, PM/PdM, lifecycle cost, and asset-risk principles.
  • Transformer, electrical equipment, fabrication, assembly, testing, or complex discrete manufacturing.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, project management, or similar credentials supported by practical application.
