Job Summary

The Welding Technician is responsible for providing technical leadership and support for all welding operations within the manufacturing environment. This role develops, implements, and continually improves welding processes, standards, and training programs to ensure product quality, operational efficiency, and compliance with company and industry requirements. Serving as the subject matter expert for welding equipment, techniques, and procedures, the Welding Technician partners with Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality teams to establish best practices, troubleshoot welding-related issues, and support new product introductions. The role also leads welder qualification and training initiatives, evaluates weld quality and process performance, and drives continuous improvement efforts that enhance safety, productivity, and manufacturability across the organization.

 

Responsibilities

Objectives of This Role:

This position will provide technical welding support to the factory, including establishing welding processes, developing standard work, and ensuring all welders meet required standards. This role will support continuous improvement of all welding processes and train welders as needed. Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Develops and oversees welding training and qualification programs in partnership with Process Engineering to establish, conduct, and document weld training and tests for all fabrication areas.
  • Evaluates and audits weld processes and quality systems across the various fabrication areas to ensure adherence to company standards for weld integrity and visual acceptance.
  • Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Welding Procedure Specifications, Standard Operating Procedures, and acceptance criteria for all methods of welding to support operational consistency and product quality.
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance by coaching other team members on best practices and continuously looking for ways to improve existing processes for quality, appearance, strength, ergonomics, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Working collaboratively with other weld technicians across the enterprise to share projects, gather insight, and implement positive changes within the organization.
  • Serving as the subject matter expert for all questions/concerns regarding welding equipment, welding processes, and welding technique for operations and maintenance needs.
  • Participate in customer corrective action requests and assist in establishing corrective actions, documenting changes, and ensuring effectiveness.
  • Managing and documenting all welding equipment, conducting risk assessments of existing equipment, and assisting in capital projects involving welding equipment.
  • Plans and executes welding process development activities, including prototype trials and validation testing, to support new product introduction, manufacturability assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with local technical schools and industry experts to develop curriculum and maintain working knowledge of the latest in weld technology

Essential Functions include the following:

  • Work collaboratively with others and be willing to adapt to the needs of the role
  • Capable of hands-on coaching and training of other welders
  • Self-driven, improvement focused, with strong leadership skills

Qualifications

Education or Equivalent:

  • 5+ years of welding experience in a sheet metal production environment is required.
  • Associates or greater in Welding Technology is preferred.
  • CWI certification through AWS is HIGHLY preferred.

Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience welding carbon and stainless-steel sheet under 1/8” in thickness via SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and/or resistance welding.
  • Ability to effectively manage small and large projects from start to finish with proper documentation
  • Ability to ask questions and quickly grasp new concepts.
  • This position will require the use of technology. CAD experience is a plus, but proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

Work Environment/Travel/ Physical Requirements:

  • This position may require occasional travel for training, collaborative meetings, or equipment showcases.
