The Controller will oversee the company's financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. This role is crucial for ensuring the financial health and compliance of the organization, providing strategic financial guidance to senior management, and supporting operational efficiency and growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, excellent leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the manufacturing industry.

 

This role is onsite in Athens, GA. Relocation is available.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the annual budget, financial forecasts, and report variances, providing strategic analysis and insights to drive business decisions.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Analyze company's financial results with respect to profits, trends, costs, and compliance with budgets. Issue regular status and ad hoc reports to senior management.
  • Lead the cash management strategy, ensuring optimal cash flow to support company operations and investments.
  • Coordinate external audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • Advise on long-term business and financial planning, including new funding and investment opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Master’s degree or professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience as a Financial Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role, ideally within the manufacturing industry.
  • Extensive experience in preparing financial statements, conducting financial analysis, and managing budgets.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP and other financial regulations, with experience in managing compliance with tax and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong experience with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present financial data using detailed reports and charts.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently with a broad perspective, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to resolving issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.
