About ERMCO

ERMCO (Electric Research and Manufacturing Cooperative, Inc.) is a leading U.S. manufacturer of distribution transformers and engineered electrical solutions serving electric utilities, OEMs, and industrial customers across North America. Headquartered in Dyersburg, Tennessee, ERMCO delivers reliable, high-quality products that power homes, businesses, and communities every day.

With a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement, ERMCO is at the forefront of supporting grid modernization and the energy transition. Our vertically integrated operations, customer-focused culture, and investment in people and technology make ERMCO a trusted partner in delivering resilient, sustainable power infrastructure for the future.

About the Role

At ERMCO, you’ll be part of a team that keeps the country powered — literally. As an Advanced Manufacturing Project Engineer, you’ll help shape the future of how we build the high-quality electrical distribution equipment that communities depend on every day. This is a role where your ideas matter, your initiative is valued, and your work leaves a visible impact across our plants and product lines. If you thrive in solving complex problems, improving how things are made, and leading projects that move the business forward, you’ll feel right at home here.

This role blends hands-on manufacturing engineering with advanced project leadership. You’ll drive technology integration, lead complex process design efforts, and partner closely with cross-functional teams to execute strategic manufacturing initiatives. You will develop new processes, validate equipment, optimize workflows, and support ERMCO’s automation roadmap — including robotics, data-driven process control, and digital manufacturing tools that support our vertically integrated operations.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Lead advanced manufacturing projects from concept through implementation, including engineering design, validation, and production release.
  • Create detailed 3D and 2D models, tooling designs, jigs, fixtures, and complete equipment using Inventor or comparable CAD platforms.
  • Develop PFMEAs, control plans, process flow diagrams, and work instructions that support stable, repeatable operations.
  • Conduct time studies, capacity modeling, and simulation analysis to optimize bottlenecks and future-state production layouts.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to troubleshoot process variation and drive root-cause problem solving.
  • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and automation solutions to reduce waste, improve first-pass yield, and enhance throughput.
  • Support equipment specification, vendor evaluation, CAPEX justification, and installation of new automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing systems.
  • Integrate Industry 4.0 solutions such as machine data collection, MES enhancements, and IoT-enabled predictive maintenance.
  • Partner with supply chain to mitigate material risk, qualify alternate components, and evaluate manufacturability of sourced parts.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards throughout all manufacturing processes.
  • Provide coaching and technical mentorship to engineering and production team members.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience with strong exposure to process design, automation, or equipment validation.
  • Proficiency in Inventor or similar CAD tools, including design for manufacturability (DFM) and GD&T.
  • Experience creating process documentation (PFMEA, control plans, SOPs, work instructions, CAD layouts).
  • Strong understanding of automated assembly, robotics, CNC machining, welding processes, or coil winding (bonus for transformer industry experience).
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, statistical process control, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting production issues, performing root-cause analysis, and driving corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects with strong organization and prioritization.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a drive to innovate and improve manufacturing systems.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Meaningful impact: Your work directly supports the reliability of the U.S. power grid and critical infrastructure.
  • Technology-forward environment: ERMCO invests heavily in automation, modernization, and engineering tools.
  • Supportive culture: A collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to bring ideas, experiment, and drive real change.
  • Long-term stability: A trusted U.S. manufacturer with a growing footprint in a resilient industry.
