The Manager, Compensation will lead the creation and execution of a strategic, data-driven compensation function for a manufacturing company specializing in distribution transformers. This is a rare opportunity to build the compensation infrastructure from the ground up, ensuring it is competitive, equitable, and aligned with business goals. We’re looking for a results-oriented professional with deep expertise in compensation strategy who is ready to make a lasting impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive compensation strategy that supports the company’s growth and talent goals.
  • Develop and manage salary structures, job leveling, incentive plans, and other compensation programs across the organization.
  • Conduct regular market pricing, benchmarking, and pay equity analyses to ensure external competitiveness and internal fairness.
  • Partner with senior leadership and HR to define compensation philosophies that attract and retain top talent in a manufacturing environment.
  • Build scalable processes for annual compensation cycles including merit increases, promotions, and bonuses.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
  • Communicate compensation programs clearly and effectively to stakeholders and employees.
  • Leverage HRIS and compensation tools to gather insights, analyze trends, and drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion by implementing compensation practices that are fair, transparent, and inclusive.
  • Manage compensation budgeting and forecasting in alignment with financial and operational objectives.
  • Stay current on compensation trends, best practices, and regulatory developments to keep the organization competitive.
  • Lead cross-functional projects involving compensation design, implementation, and policy development.
  • Directly supervise 1–2 team members, including training, coaching, performance management, and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in compensation or a related HR function, including 2–3 years in a managerial role.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or HR certification is a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting, ideally with products like distribution transformers, is a strong advantage.
  • Expertise in compensation design, job evaluation, and compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in market pricing and compensation analytics.
  • Familiarity with compensation management tools and HRIS systems.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to connect compensation initiatives to broader business goals.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High integrity and discretion when handling sensitive compensation data.
