P4 Senior Electrical Design Engineer

ID 2025-5272
Category
Engineering
Position Type
Full-Time

Overview

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of diverse grid connected hardware solutions. As an experienced engineer, the P4 role involves providing technical leadership on complex projects and processes, mentoring less experienced engineers, and solving advanced engineering challenges. This role includes collaboration with cross-functional teams, driving innovation, and ensuring that all designs meet the highest standards of performance, efficiency, safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to architecture, requirements development and system engineering for new product developments of grid-connected power electronics systems.
• Develop and document module and PC board assembly requirements and functional specifications
• Develop and document system-level functional specifications, including communications and control architectures.
• Design verification for function and performance with hands-on testing and early simulation. Take development ownership of a circuit board, including documentation of requirements and specifications, circuit design and analysis, component selection, schematic capture, layout, firmware requirements, debugging, and leading of design reviews for all stages.
• Serve as the expert and mentor on PCB design best practices and the development process, including tools, libraries, and documentation requirements.
• Co-own with other team leads the processes for revision and configuration management.
• Cross-functional collaboration with mechanical and software engineers during product development.
• Actively participate in documenting company owned Intellectual Property as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, and preferably Master’s, Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience designing mixed signal (digital/analog) PCB assemblies with microcontrollers, Digital Signal Processors (DSP), embedded CPU’s, ethernet, and serial communications (e.g. CAN, I2C, RS-232)
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacture & Test (DFM/DFT), Quality, and Reliability concepts
• Experience with mixed signal (digital/analog) hands-on PCB layout design, and EMC mitigation in high noise environments
• Experience with board-level power management, including buck and linear regulators.
• Experience with concept to manufacturing product design cycles, including prototype assembly and testing, both in house and using contract manufacturers

Experience or familiarity with the following is a plus:

o VHDL/Verilog experience for programming CPLD or FPGA devices
o Writing C code for microcontrollers and digital signal processors
o High-voltage and high-power applications, including safety isolation, gate drives, current sensors, magnetic components, and isolated communications
o Exposure to environmentally hardened Industrial rated product development
o Knowledge of communication protocols for ethernet/PoE, CAN, I2C and RS-232
o IPC, UL/Safety, and EMC standards.
o Power electronics topologies and components
o Electrical distribution grid and AC power distribution
o Familiarity with system level power management for applications such as energy storage systems, DC Microgrids, and EV charging
