Position Type
Full-Time

Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, equipment and systems, as well as ensuring the quality, productivity and compliance with industry standards (UL, CSA, IEEE, NEMA). The role involves supporting the production area to ensure that projects flow through the manufacturing process smoothly and that communication between the engineering and manufacturing departments is clear, concise and efficient.

Process engineering will be imperative to this role’s success. The ideal candidate will combine a strong technical foundation with innovative problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing environment with Engineering support when requested.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor assigned manufacturing engineers, assigned tasks, providing technical guidance, and developing their skills.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for the production of distribution transformers, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
  • Be the key person in the communication between the Engineering and Manufacturing departments for the solution of production problems.
  • Design and implement process engineering projects, including the selection and setup of machinery, equipment layout, and workflow optimization.
  • Conduct process simulations and analysis to predict production issues and identify solutions.
  • Provide hand-on technical training and support to production staff and operators, enhancing their understanding of process engineering principles.
  • Implement quality control processes, monitor compliance with quality standards, and initiate continuous improvement projects to meet and exceed industry standards.
  • Perform cost analysis on manufacturing processes to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
  • Assessing the workers performance level, (Effort and Pace) using a rating factor to adjust production standards related to OEE and finished goods costing in current ERP system.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Production) to integrate new products or changes into the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct time studies to accurately measure work processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
  • Contribute to and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance production efficiency and quality.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for manufacturing processes, including process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify potential process risks and implement preventive measures.
  • Investigate production problems, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay abreast of the latest manufacturing technologies and process engineering techniques applicable to transformer manufacturing.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards in all process engineering activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Process Engineer, preferably in the distribution transformer or related manufacturing industry.
  • Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other relevant process improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., UL, CSA, IEEE, NEMA) and regulatory requirements for transformers and components.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing process improvement projects and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn and apply technical knowledge under supervision.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Organized, with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with CAD software for equipment layout and process design.
