Who Are You

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems. This position is responsible for ensuring quality, productivity, and compliance with industry standards such as UL, CSA, IEEE, and NEMA. The ideal candidate will facilitate smooth project flow within the production area, fostering clear and efficient communication between the engineering and manufacturing departments. A strong foundation in process engineering is essential, along with innovative problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement. The successful candidate will support the team with hands-on engineering expertise, contributing to an environment focused on operational excellence.

Responsibilities

What Will You Do

  • Management and Mentor: Lead and mentor assigned manufacturing engineers, guiding them in task management and providing technical expertise to foster skill development.
  • Process Development: Design and optimize manufacturing processes to produce distribution transformers, prioritize efficiency, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
  • Project Implementation: Design and execute process engineering projects, including machinery selection, equipment layout, and workflow optimization.
  • Simulation and Analysis: Conduct process simulations and analyses to anticipate production issues and identify effective solutions.
  • Training and Support: Provide hands-on technical training to production staff and operators, enhancing their understanding of process engineering principles.
  • Quality Control: Implement quality control processes, monitor compliance with standards, and lead continuous improvement projects to exceed industry benchmarks.
  • Cost Analysis: Perform cost analyses on manufacturing processes to uncover opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency enhancements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between the Engineering and Manufacturing departments to address and resolve production challenges effectively Work with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Production) to integrate new products and process changes effectively.
  • Time Studies: Conduct time studies to accurately assess work processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize operations and productivity.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance production efficiency and quality.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for manufacturing processes, including flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Risk Management: Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify potential process risks and implement preventive measures.
  • Problem Investigation: Investigate production issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Technology Awareness: Stay updated on the latest manufacturing technologies and process engineering techniques relevant to transformer manufacturing.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all process engineering activities comply with environmental, health, and safety standards.

Qualifications

What Will You Need

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Process Engineer, preferably in the distribution transformer or related manufacturing sectors.
  • Certifications: Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other relevant process improvement certifications are highly desirable.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., UL, CSA, IEEE, NEMA) and regulatory requirements specific to transformers and their components.
  • Process Improvement: Proven track record of successfully implementing process improvement projects and applying lean manufacturing principles.
  • Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineers, offering guidance on technical skills and fostering professional growth.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a willingness to learn and apply technical knowledge.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with CAD software for equipment layout and process design.
