Overview

To organize, plan, oversee and complete key multidisciplinary projects in a timely fashion and within assigned budget. This role will engage at all levels of the company to drive targeted results while cultivating an environment of operational excellence.  This role will directly interface with program customers ensuring the voice of the customer is captured and operations can support their needs.  In this effort, this role will work to provide key data to Operations on what to manufacture and in what sequence.  Finally, this role will collect and analyze data to ensure that the facility is meeting its goals and objectives as set forth by leadership.

Responsibilities

    • Determine, define, package, present, defend, and execute formalized projects to improve the overall performance of the facility.
    • Work as a contact for program customers to communicate where their units are in the manufacturing process and when they might expect completion of their transformers.
    • Manage customer expectations by understanding the voice of the customer and realizing what changes must be made in operations to address those needs.
    • Interact with all disciplines of the business in projects and other initiatives to help analyze systems and improve them where it can be implemented.
    • Meeting with program customers at designated frequency (weekly, monthly, or otherwise stated) to discuss customer needs and report on performance of the factory for their demands. This will be a time to discuss any issues the customer or operations is having in meeting demands.
    • Generate and manage project management tools such as formalized Project Plans including formalized Scopes of Work (SOW) with detailed Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) that encompass resource requirements, project timeline and associated costs.
    • Leverage advanced knowledge of Lean tools and project management methods such as visual systems, kaizen blitz, demand flow (pull), benchmarking, SMED, structured problem solving, etc. to more efficiently structure and deliver project goals.
    • Efficiently manage resources needed to reach objectives for initiatives by acting in collaboration to bring different disciplines of the business together to maximize synergies.
    • Prepare and actively manage project budgets based on detailed Project Plans.
    • Develop and deliver regular project updates to various stakeholders to include select Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for each project.
    • As necessary, manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks, communicating expected deliverables, and monitoring progress.
    • Act as a representative for Operations and the Athens site as a whole with both external and internal partners, vendors, & suppliers. Streamlining processes and implementing beneficial processes for both parties to realize more gains for the overall organization.
    • Must be able to manage and influence multi-site works streams to ensure business goals are met and customer requirements are understood by multiple sites or locations

     

Qualifications

Education or Equivalent (any of these may apply):

  • BS in Engineering or relevant work experience in an industrial environment
  • 6-10 years of hands-on project management experience in a heavy manufacturing or major project delivery organization.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or another equivalent credential.

 

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Adept in employing and teaching continuous improvement tools to all facets of the business (Value Stream and Process Mapping, 5S, visual systems, lead time & WIP reduction, 5-Why, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Able to lead, coach, and facilitate teams and individuals alike.
  • Skilled in Project Plan creation, programming, & execution including KPI verification & validation.
  • Able to graphically describe, clarify and analyze data, processes, and systems.
  • Exhibits a passion for results.
  • Demonstrates accountability and ability to hold others accountable.
  • Achieves credibility at all levels through technical competence, drive, follow through behaviors, and solid communication skills.
  • Actively seeks, share, and applies new concepts to continuously improve self and others.
  • Works effectively with others individually and in teams in pursuit of organizational goals.

  • Skilled in project definition, programming, and execution.
  • Skilled user of computer applications including MS Office, Project, Lotus Notes, etc.
  • Strong background in manufacturing concepts such as Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Understands the processes and operation of the entire plant, including customer expectations
  • Drive and manage change in the organization to increase acceptability and improve the overall culture of the business
  • Ability to lead groups and teams towards desired outcomes designed to improve overall performance of the business.
