Overview

Summary:


The Single Phase Transformer Quotation Designer is the lead operative for processing technical quotes for transformers received from customers and distributor representatives. This will involve reading and comprehending customer transformer specifications, including drawings and descriptions, and interpretation of those documents into the specific computer models before selection of product options. When there is a choice of options, the Designer will select standard products as defined by Engineering and supply chain constraints. The Designer uses initiative and experience to suggest alternate proposals and provide input to Sales management on proposal strategies. He/She coordinates product configuration activities between the Sales Department and Engineering Department and consults with Sales representatives, customers, Sales Associates, Design Engineering and/or administrative staff. The Designer telephones or composes emails to answer or advise customers and distributor representatives. This may involve making judgments such as choosing a specific transformer design from established designs or finding alternatives to better fit customer specifications or requirements. The Designer accomplishes this by performing the following duties:

 

Essential Functions:

• Reviews customer specifications and/or the provided descriptions to ensure compliance with the customer requirements, most recent supply chain allowances, and ERMCO’s current product scope.
• Designs electrical equipment, components, and products for use on electrical distribution systems.
• Designs and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products and/or components using industry standards, customer specifications, and established parameters.
• Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to obtain core/coil designs with the required unit enclosure dimensions, layouts, and loss parameters defined by the customer’s specifications and descriptions.
• Uses computer ATO screens to input product options to match customer specifications to the most accurate and cost-effective design.
• Uses computer ATO screens to define manufacturing work instructions for customer labels, decals, and special requirements for electrical testing or assembly.
• Management of quote requests via the web-based ticketing system Zendesk
• Verification of customer information provided by the Sales Associate included in the quote request tickets.
• Communicate with the customer or distributor representatives concerning any questions or issues regarding quote requests or customer specifications.
• Follow up with the customer, distributor representative, or Sales Associate for any unanswered questions or concerns that have not been addressed for quote requests that cannot be completed.
• Implement large scale design and/or component changes necessary to meet production constraints.
• Administer large scale migration of existing quotes to new ATO warehouses to ensure proper component pricing and dynamic product manufacturing placement.
• Conduct testing by generating test quotes using mock-up transformer designs or changes to live quotes to provide data to Engineering for research.
• Coordinate between the Purchasing and Accounting departments to update component costs and physical inventory locations for multiple manufacturing facilities.
• Coordinate between Engineering and Purchasing to create new options or procure new components for new customers or to meet changes to current customer’s specifications.
• Update and maintain customer databases containing customer specifications, drawings, internally compiled information, and past quotes.
• Advise and/or make corrections to issues or concerns from the production floor in regard to in-process units.
• Participate in the company-wide annual physical inventory in which the individual’s inventory job will vary depending on the need for personnel.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret customer specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to provide accurate work under pressure of tight deadlines.
• Ability to memorize and recall numerous ERMCO-specific manufacturing and design requirements for multiple products that are subject to change at any time.
• Ability to maintain integrity regarding all aspects of the position.

Knowledge:

 

• High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in distribution transformer final assembly, quality inspection, or electrical testing. 
• Preferred Requirements- Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university.
